Ahmet Güneştekin Paintings LOS ART GALLERY SYMI / ARTFORUM GALLERYJuly 2 – August 20, 2016
Los Art Gallery presents paintings by Ahmet Güneştekin in a summer exhibition, which revolves around the notions of mythology and history. The art works manifest Güneştekin’s unique aesthetics that is to convert mythological narratives into abstract imagery.Güneştekin’s paintings can be described as an interpretation of the legends and myths from Anatolian, Mesopotamian and Greek civilizations. By distributing the oil paints into vertical and horizontal bands, he accentuates the elements those are characteristic of the mythological subjects of each art work. The geometrical motif, a recurrent element in his art that represents the sun, which reveals itself through the sunlight that rises up from the left side of the canvas, reference the symbolism in the myriad myths and legends. Pegasus the Sun Traveller and Persistence of Zeus as all art works in this show are inscribed in this conceptual framework.Güneştekin offers visitors an immersion in ancient mythology whose imagery and significance reveals the myths and legends trespassing geographical borders testifying to the common roots of different cultures. His artworks refer to the contradiction between good and bad, war and peace, and to the affinity between the ancient deities, people and cultures whilst myths and legends embroidered in the background to the present day.
